A Big Hip Impingement Research Scam - The Chinese Lie on FAI

femoroacetabular impingement hip health videos

If you’ve been told that femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) surgery is the obvious solution for your hip pain, hold up. In this video, we take a closer look at a 2022 “systematic review” that's been paraded around as proof that surgery is the best (or only) option.

But here's the problem: it's not just bad. It's embarrassing.

The Study That Got It All Wrong

This paper claims that surgery for FAI is superior to non-surgical options. But when you dig into the methodology, the statistical games, and the logic gymnastics, it quickly becomes clear: the conclusions are shaky at best — and misleading at worst.

What the Video Reveals About the Study

In the video, we break down why this study deserves a closer look — and a hard pass on blind trust. Here are the key issues:

  • Statistical Manipulation: The paper uses a whole bunch of statistical games and mathematical manipulations to overwhelm you with data while quietly distracting from its weaknesses.
  • Misleading Abstract: The conclusion claims that hip arthroscopy (surgery) is statistically superior to conservative treatment in both short- and long-term outcomes. But that’s a surface-level takeaway — the details tell a much murkier story. The conclusions of longer term randomized controlled trials are simply ignored.
  • Factual Inaccuracies: The paper includes inaccurate information — not just misleading, but objectively wrong. That’s a major red flag for something that claims to be evidence-based.
    • One glaring example: Double Counting! One of the papers included in the meta-analysis was mislabeled and counted twice, literally doubling its impact on the specious calculations.
  • Massive Grammatical Mistakes: For a peer-reviewed paper, the writing is shockingly poor and difficult to interpret. The grammar alone casts serious doubt on the level of editorial scrutiny it received.

Why This Matters for You

If you’re dealing with hip pain — groin pain, outer hip pain, SI joint issues, or that nagging pinch when you squat — you deserve better than manipulated data and quick-sell surgery pitches. You deserve honest answers, solid logic, and a real shot at fixing things without going under the knife.

Watch the Breakdown

In this video, you’ll learn:

  • What the study says (and what it conveniently ignores)
  • How statistics can be used to deceive — not inform
  • Why a systems-based view of your body is often more useful than a scalpel
